FOR ARTISTS & GALLERIES

These two editing services are intended to meet a range of needs common to artists and small galleries today.

ARTIST EDIT

This service is intended as a quick option for artists producing short written work, such as essays, pamphlets, bios, or wall-text. It offers an opportunity for artists to have their work checked for correct grammar and consistent style. This option is offered with the acknowledgement that these kinds of texts are not always tied to the fixed standards of academic writing, yet it is premised on a belief in producing professional work that is free from spelling, grammar, and style errors.
A standard edit includes grammar, syntax, clarity of expression, style, and tone, as well as identifying things like repetition, wordiness, and unusual or awkward phrasing. Where appropriate, I can also check that in-text citations, footnotes, and the reference list match the chosen style guide.
The artist editing service is offered with a fixed rate of €30 for up to two pages of text. Longer texts are charged at the discounted rate of 2 cents per word (3 cents NZD). Work will be turned around within three days.
If you are interested in the artist editing service, please check your due dates against the availability calendar and use the contact form to send an enquiry. The sooner you book, the greater your chances of securing the date that suits you.
“At the end of 2016 Melinda undertook editing for me in the form of a major art publication in Berlin. The editing called for a thorough understanding of contemporary painting practice, whilst also retaining the artist’s voice. She was outstanding at finding the correct language and tone needed for the publication. The editing was completed in an extremely efficient manner to a very tight printing deadline.”

GALLERY EDIT

This service is intended for small galleries wishing to outsource or receive assistance with the editing of key publications, such as catalogues, pamphlets, annuals, or web content. It recognises that smaller galleries and project spaces often work with limited resources, so provides an opportunity for gallery staff to work with the support of an experienced editor. This option is offered with the acknowledgement that gallery texts are not always tied to the fixed standards of academic writing, yet it is premised on a belief in producing professional text that is free from spelling, grammar and style errors.
A standard edit includes grammar, syntax, clarity of expression, style, and academic tone, as well as identifying things like repetition, wordiness, unusual or awkward phrasing, and missing citations. Where appropriate, I can also check that in-text citations, footnotes, and the reference list match the chosen style guide.

Work is billed depending on the size/budget of the institution or gallery at either 2 or 3 cents per word. Work is turned around quickly with negotiable deadlines for each stage of the project.

If you are interested in the editing service for galleries, please check your key due dates against the availability calendar and use the contact form to send an enquiry. The sooner you book, the greater your chances of securing the dates that suit you.
“I have been using Melinda’s editing services for over three years now and
recommended her to a variety of people who are looking for an editor
or perhaps don’t realise they need one. Everyone I pass her details on
to ends up being as pleased as me with the results of Melinda’s work.
Part of the reason why she is so good at what she does is because she’s
both adaptable and interested in working on a wider variety of subject
matter, from long-form art reviews, poems, experimental short-form art
writing, editorials, to creative writing essays. Every text receives
several quality read throughs by Melinda, who researches, fact checks,
and suggests excellent work arounds for a variety of writers both experienced
and inexperienced. I trust Melinda’s work because she is thorough, quick,
conscious of tight budgets and always follows up until the text reaches
its final published destination.”
